It gives me immense pleasure to present before you the report of the UGC Sponsored One-Day State Level Workshop on “Teaching with GIS and GPS for Educators and Researchers in the field of Geography” which was organized by the Department of Geography on 12th September 2015. The workshop had been organized to provide all the academicians, research scholars and professionals a platform to interact on issues related to applications of GIS and GPS. The workshop received encouraging response attracting about 97 delegates from various parts of the states.
The Workshop was inaugurated with keynote address by Dr. (Smt.) Veena Soragavi, Department of Civil Eng. Basaveshwar Eng. College Bagalkot, who was the chief guest. She focused on Application and Importance of Remote Sensing, GIS and GPS. The guest of honour Prof. S. I. Biradar, Chairman Department of Geography Karnatak University Dharwad, highlighted over the role of GIS and GPS in Geographical studies. Smt. Lata Kittur, Chairperson, R.P.D. College Managing Committee, presided over the function.

The One-Day Workshop had a total of three technical sessions. The resource persons like Prof. V. S. Hegde, Department of Civil Eng. S D M College; Dr. R. Manimurali, Senior Scientist AcSIR School of Oceanography, Goa; and Dr. (Smt.) Rita Basanna, Department of Geography, Bangalore University contributed their views on various themes of the workshop.
I take this opportunity to thank our beloved Principal Dr.(Smt.) S. P. Surebankar, the Organizing Secretaries Dr. M. S. Kurani and Smt. S. I. Kittali and all the Chairpersons and members of various committees, the student volunteers for their valuable support towards the grand success of this workshop.
I also thank the University Grants Commission for their financial assistance in organizing this event and my sincere thanks are also to the S. K. E. Society Belgaum for their valuable support in organizing this workshop.
