A Batch of 12 students of B.Com III along with the 5 faculty members visited Greenark Industry at Hubli on 11th September,2018, manufacturers of eco friendly plates made out of the arecanut flower covering. The students were exposed to the process of manufacturing the different form of plates and containers which are used in serving food. The industry is managed by a women entrepreneur Mrs. Vrushali Deshpande along with her partners Mr. Vinod Kadam and Mr. Amit Kulkarni. The unit has been managed professionally and has employed a large number of women employees. It is a both capital intensive and labour intensive unit. The unit has export orders because of the standards that they have maintained in manufacturing the eco friendly plates. The students were given to understand the whole raw material procurement process and the further plate processing and the costs involved into the same. The students also visited the world’s largest kitchen “ Akshya Patra” Hubli ,under the guidance of shri. Rajesh Patki and Swami Santanudas of ISKCON, to understand the mega production of food for the mid day meals for 800 govt schools and more than 1,50, 000 students. The students also had the privilege of visting the KMF Hubli unit and were able to understand the whole milk procurement and distribution system. The students were shown the various milk products produced at the unit. The students also visited the Laxmi Narayan Solvents, Hubli a unit for extraction of edible oil from cotton seeds owned by Mr. Manuel and his partners. The students learnt the process involved in the oil extraction and also had a great idea of the By-products and the waste product , which after further processing have got a great commercial value. The Unit has an annual turnover of approximately Rs. 300 crores and employs around 200 regular and about 300 seasonal workers in the unit.
