The two-day inter-collegiate and inter-school chess tournament organized on 17th August 2018 by the SKE Society’s Sports Academy in association with the Belgaum District Chess Association (BDCA) got underway with an impressive inaugural ceremony. Chief Guest of the inaugural ceremony Sri. Raj B. Deshpande, a senior member of BDCA inaugurated the tournament by moving a coin on the chess board. Earlier Sri. Prasanna B. Joshi, President, Belgaum District Chess Association, welcomed the gathering and gave a prelude of the tournament. Sri. S.Y. Prabhu vice president of SKE sports academy and Sri. Sharad Walawalkar, President of the Academy were present on the occasion. Sri. Ramkrishna N. Secretary of SKE Sports academy proposed the vote of thanks.
More than two hundred chess players from all over the districts from various schools and college took part in the tournament which was being played on Swiss-league system under five categories i.e. lower-primary, higher-primary, Higher-secondary, Pre-University and College.
Members of the Belgaum District Chess Association and SKE Sports academy, Chess players and parents of the students were present on the occasion in large number.
