International Day of Yoga was observed on June 21, 2016 at 11 am in K. M. Giri Auditorium Hall. It was organised by the Department of Yoga of Rani Parvati Devi College in association with GSS Degree College, GSS Departments of Chemistry and Botany, GSS BCA College, RPD BBA College, GSS PU College and RPD PU College, Belagavi.

Sri Muralidhara Prabhu with his associates and Mr. Nayeem Shaikh were the chief guests of the function. In their guest speeches they explained the role of yoga in maintaining physical and mental health and demonstrated yoga postures, pranayama and meditation.
Dr. Mrs. S. P. Surebankar, the principal of RPD College welcomed the guests and the gathering in the introductory address. The address also mentioned the origin and history of yoga.

Dr. I.S. Kumbar, Coordinator of yoga studies, RPD College, introduced the guests of the function. In his address he explained the relevance of yoga in today’s world.
Sri Anand K. Mense, Principal of GSS College was the guest of honour. Smt Lata Kittur, the Chairman of SKE Society, was the president of the function.
Mrs. Arpana Patil, Department of English compeered the function. Mr. Akshay Hiremath rendered the invocation song. The function started with the recorded messages on Yoga of Sri Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India, Smt Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister of External Affairs, and Sri Sripad Naik, Union Minister of State, AYUSH, Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India.
Students, teaching and non teaching staff of educational institutions of SKE Society campus participated in the function. It was concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Mrs Achala A. Desai, Department of English.
