Prof .G.N.Devy delivered a lecture on ‘Literature in the Time of Language Loss’. Professor began his lecture by giving a historical background. Sir pointed out that the language is the unique gift which human beings have got. It is the medium of communication which is unique to human beings. Sir said that the common languages started developing some 10,000 years ago. Today we have 7,000 living languages in India. He said that some 4000 languages will disappear in next 30 years.  He explained about the change in the literature with time. He said that in every two days one language is disappearing in the world. He also stressed on the fact that the literature is a physical thing which can be listened, received and spoken. The lecture clearly showed us that Prof. G.N.Devy has a great knowledge about most of the Indian languages and he undertook hard work to protect these languages.
