NFRASTRUCTURE AND MAINTENANCE POLICY
- Preamble
The institution shall provide facilities for holistic development of the students with augmentation and maintenance of infrastructural facilities according to the present need and endeavour to upgrade its technological support to create a better academic environment.
2Scope of the Policy
The infrastructure and maintenance policy is applicable to all the members of SKE Society’s Rani Parvati Devi College of Arts and Commerce (RPD College), Autonomous, Belagavi, with all academic, administrative and support processes and services.
3Infrastructure and Maintenance Committee
A committee shall be established to implement and monitor the infrastructure and maintenance.
The composition of the committee shall be as follows:
- Principal – Ex-officio Chairman
- Finance Officer – Ex-officio Member
- Infrastructure Development – Coordinator
- Campus Supervisor
- Senior IT Staff – (Nominee)
- Senior Administrative Staff – (Nominee)
4Role and Responsibilities of Infrastructure and Maintenance Committee
The committee bears responsibility to establish, augment and maintain infrastructure of the institution.
4.1 The committee shall assess the infrastructure needs of the institution periodically by keeping abreast with the industry and society needs.
4.2 The committee shall design and implement the plan for infrastructure establishment and augmentation.
4.3 The committee shall lay down the guidelines and monitor the maintenance of infrastructure.
4.4 The committee shall establish IT infrastructure for efficient integration of ICT in the academic process.
4.5 Up gradation of laboratories, whenever needed, shall be done to meet research and industry requirements.
4.6 The committee shall make provision for library, support and transport facilities.
4.7 The committee shall ensure adherence to national standards of environment protection and safety.
- Infrastructure for Teaching-Learning and Research
5.1 The institution provides a suitable environment for effective teaching-learning process through well-equipped and spacious classrooms with ergonomic furniture.
5.2 The institution possesses automated library with learning resources, e-resources, databases, reading rooms, reprography and internet facilities.
5.3 The institution possesses well equipped laboratories for Computer Science, Bio Sciences, Physical Sciences and Language learning for teaching-learning and research.
5.4 Specialised offices and centers for examination and valuation are in place.
6Support Facilities and Inclusive Campus
6.1 The institution shall create and augment auditoria, conference halls and facilities for academic, cultural and co-curricular activities.
6.2 The Institution shall enable holistic growth through the creation of infrastructural facilities for training in music, dance, theatre, literary events and fine arts.
6.3 The institution shall foster physical and emotional well-being through the provision of infrastructural facilities for sports and games (indoor and outdoor), yoga, health center, counselling, meditation, physical fitness and recreation.
6.4 The institution shall create facilities for quality assurance and placement.
6.5 The institution houses hostels separately for boys and girls in accordance with the student intake and also houses the guest house.
6.6 The institution shall create accessible facilities and supportive learning environment for Divyangjan students.
6.7 The institution has fire safety equipment installed adhering to the safety protocols.
6.8 The institution shall have administrative and support staff through the establishment of staff rooms with IT support, office space and recreational amenities.
- Green Campus Facilities
7.1 The institution has the facility for harnessing rainwater and solar energy.
7.2 Facilities such as vermicomposting unit, compost pits and biogas plant shall be created for managing biodegradable wastes.
7.3 The institution shall maintain system and process for collection and segregation of dry waste.
7.4 An Effluent Treatment Plant is set up for treatment and maximum utilisation of waste water
7.5 The institution shall establish facilities such as medicinal garden, green house, floral diversity,
plant tissue culture for conservation of campus biodiversity.
8 Maintenance Policy
The responsibility of infrastructure augmentation and maintenance shall be of Coordinator, Infrastructure Planning and Development, Finance Officer and Administrative Office.
8.1 Classroom maintenance: The supervisors shall survey the classroom to assess the furniture, ICT needs and suggest improvements if needed. The departments shall submit infrastructural requirements for Divyangjan students at the beginning of the academic year. The class supervisors shall monitor the cleanliness and operation of the ICT facilities in the classroom. Maintenance requirements shall be made known through offline and online channels.
8.2 Maintenance of infrastructural facilities: Verification of the auditoria and conference hall furniture, functionality of audio visual, ICT and other facilities shall be done periodically by the technical staff. Any immediate requirements of maintenance shall be met prior to any common programme. A repair register shall be kept in the office to record maintenance requirements of various infrastructural facilities and equipment. All maintenance issues shall be addressed at the earliest.
8.3 Maintenance of library: The Library Committee shall take care of purchase of books and journals as per the requirement of students and staff, and update library services to incorporate latest technologies. The Committee shall be responsible for the effective functioning of the library. The librarian shall be in-charge of the library and its maintenance. Integrated Library Management System shall be maintained through AMC.
8.4 Laboratory maintenance: Maintenance of laboratories, equipment and other facilities of lab shall be taken care by the respective departments and support staff. Procurement details shall be provided by the respective departments and the needs shall be met on time. Periodic stock verification shall be carried out on a regular basis. Repair and maintenance work shall be carried out and recorded in a register. AMC agreements shall be made for sophisticated lab instruments.
8.5 Green campus maintenance: A team of gardeners shall take care of the gardens of the college under an estate supervisor. The department of life sciences shall be in-charge of floral and faunal species mapping. All types of waste shall be segregated and recycled according to the institutional policy. A campus supervisor shall inspect the ETP periodically to verify if the plant is functioning optimally. Any defect shall be rectified immediately by the service provider.
8.6 Maintenance of solar panels: A campus supervisor shall inspect the solar panels periodically to verify if the plant is functioning optimally.
8.7 Maintenance of electrical and electronic appliances: Technicians qualified in electrical engineering shall be employed to install and maintain various electrical and public address systems. Based on the requests made by departments, new systems shall be installed or existing ones shall be repaired to increase efficiency, AMC agreements shall be renewed for the maintenance of generators, CCTV, UPS and other electronic devices.
8.8 Maintenance of safety equipment: The College shall adhere to the statutory fire safety regulations. Fire safety drills and audits shall be carried out. Fire safety equipment shall be inspected and maintained by the AMC partners.
8.9 Maintenance of water purifiers: Water potability shall be checked periodically and RO units shall be serviced through AMC.
8.10 Maintenance of ICT facilities: ICT infrastructure shall be maintained by qualified and trained in-house system administrators with the support of AMC service partners.
9 Utilisation of Infrastructural Facilities Policy
9.1 The classrooms shall be allocated based on a need assessment and shall be mapped.
9.2 The auditoria and conference halls shall be utilised for organising cultural events, conferences, seminars, workshops and exhibitions for national and international level events.
9.3 The availability of reading rooms for study in the libraries shall make efficient utilisation of books and online resources of the library. Orientation on usage of e-resources shall be given to students and faculty members. Efforts shall be taken to increase the library usage in the academic community.
9.4 A manual in the laboratories shall provide clear procedural details and expected code of conduct inside the laboratory. The heads of the departments shall prepare a schedule for the optimum utilisation of all lab hours and resources.
9.5 Sports facilities shall be utilised for training and conduct of sports and games events according to the schedule prepared by the department of physical education and sports. The facilities shall also be utilised for training and conduct of sports events of the affiliating university.
